Iraq’s Ministry of Culture has announced its ongoing preparations to inaugurate a new military museum inside the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in the capital, Baghdad. The museum is set to become a national tourist landmark, showcasing the heroism and sacrifices of Iraqi security forces throughout history.

According to a statement received by Al-Naba', the preparations are being carried out under the directive of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani and with the direct supervision of Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani. The head of the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage, Ali Obaid Shalgam, visited the designated museum hall accompanied by ministry staff and engineering department personnel.

The statement noted that the visit included a meeting with Lamia Dawood, Advisor and Director General of Government Properties at the Prime Minister’s Office, along with several Ministry of Defense officers and Sufana Abdul Redha, director of the monument’s rehabilitation project. Discussions covered the museum’s opening procedures and its planned exhibits, which will include both historical and contemporary artifacts from all branches of the Iraqi security forces—namely, the Ministries of Defense and Interior, the Counter-Terrorism Service, and the Popular Mobilization Forces.

Shalgam emphasized the need to provide the necessary logistical support to complete the museum’s requirements, underscoring the importance of coordination among all involved parties to ensure the museum reflects Iraq’s rich military history and ancient heritage.

He also referred to the minister’s directives to assign specialized staff from the State Board of Antiquities and Heritage to manage and open the museum as soon as possible.

Lamia Dawood expressed hope that the project will soon come to fruition, given its significance in preserving and passing down the legacy of Iraqi bravery to future generations. She confirmed the Prime Minister’s strong support for the initiative and affirmed her readiness to provide all resources needed for its success.
